I have flouresent lights in my unheated garage. Most of the winter and during high humidity the rest of the year the old large tube units do not light up very quickly. A couple of years ago I bought a new light to replace one that just did not come on any more. I had to buy the small tube T8 (I think) I got more light and nearly instant on with it. Have been replacing the old ones one at a time. I do have the screw in flourescent bulb in my drag light but do not like it at all. It does not produce anywhere near the light of an incandescent. It has to be so close to your work that it is in the way. It does seem more sturdy than the incandescent as Eric has not broken it yet.
