If the pin is falling out, I think the driveshaft might be worn. You can put a hose clamp around it to hold it in, but I've had those fall off too.
If the engine is loosing RPM, it's bogging down. Does it start hard? It sounds like the timing is off. I just posted a how-to on static timing in the tech library section.
