I'm not convinced that the handle is for down pressure. Jeff is correct (just backing you Jeff) about replacing the chain with straps. I'm sure that's how it's supposed to lift.
FWIW, you don't need down pressure. Just takes the weight off the rear tires, then you can't pull. A rear attachment set and properly operated doesn't need down pressure. Or any attachment for that matter. I'd still replace the chain lift with a set of straps from Jeff.
