I was down at our local Cub dealer, and we were talking about the good ol' days and Super's and what not, and he had mentioned that the MTD/Yanmar contract was up and Cub was going to be on their own again. If you notice, the Yanmar stuff just says "Yanmar" now. I don't know if this a good thing or not but he also mentioned that there was a rumor of Cub Cadet/MTD bringing a Super back to the market.
I'm sure it all comes down to money, and MTD is probably making a killing with the cheap stuff at the big box stores, so why would they ever consider this?
Which would make more sense, having to run and maintain your own dealerships or just sell your units to the big box stores? I would think the money making market is the disposable lawn mowers with the vertical shaft engines.
He claimed that back in the day, for every 50 GTs he sold, he would maybe sell 1 Super. He NEVER sold a Super with Rear PTO and he only ever seen 1 in the many years of business he has been in. That made my jaw drop.
Give the people what they want so give them disposable stuff! I doubt the Super will ever come back.
