Sam Mac knows these Super tractors inside out. Tough to go wrong listening to his advice. Personally I think thats a great tractor, and better than anything new.
There WILL be some maintenance items to check out, but its all documented here step by step and you can take pics and post any questions along the way. A little time invested will have you a great machine that will last.
At the same time, just for mowing, a used zero turn might be worth looking at. I dont know anything about them or if its possible to get a good one in your price range, but the guys mowing grass for a living tend to gravitate to these zero turns - likely for a reason.
