If I found it in a barn...... I wouldn't sell it. I'd keep it. I don't buy Cubs to sell, or part out. I have some parts machines.... for my own use.
Yes, buying and reselling does drive up prices. That's why you always want to eliminate the "middle man". If someone did/does pay his asking price of $2250, and they take the M&W out and put it on E-Bay, then the reserve will be at least $2250. You know it won't be less than they paid for it. Sooooo..... the price will go from $2250 for a whole machine with a rare part, to no less than $2250 for just the rare part. Come on.... that tractor without the creeper is a $250 machine. (That's generous) If that creeper ends up on E-Bay, you can bet the reserve will be outrageous. Thus.... the next guy who finds one will do just what all the muffler guys were doing a while back. Suddenly, the price will double because "I saw one sell on here last year for $XXXX!". This is simple math really.
FWIW, I always sell my stuff for what I think it's worth. Not for what people will pay, and not for "what I've seen" either. I don't sell on E-Bay.
