Personally, I don't know that there is a purpose for it, but you gotta admit that the cool factor on an M & W 9 speed is as much or more than any other option that was ever offered for a Cub Cadet Original. I'm sure if there were thousands of them out there, they wouldn't be such a big deal, but that isn't the case.
Over priced? Probably... but how often does one come up for sale? I would imagine it's been 6 maybe 7 years since I've seen one. I don't really think it's a matter of how much (unless it's just stupid too much) it's a matter of how badly one wants one of the rarest optioned Cub Cadet Originals. For now, yeah that price is pretty-much the limit. On a nicely restored CCO, in 50 years... It could be worth a considerable amount, and think of the enjoyment the right person would have showing such a tractor for all those years.
If you REALLY wanted it and had the extra cash laying around, would you want to wait another 6, 7 or more years for one? I'm really surprised that it didn't sell in a very short period of time.
