Went with popular opinion and took the balance gears out. Installed new piston, rings and rod, installed valves (albeit with an unconventional tool. Don't laugh too loud, it worked first time perfectly. Adjustable kept the valve closed and the open end allowed access to the keepers. Didn't even need 6 hands to make it work. Amazing what you come up with on a limited budget!), adjusted the ACR to opening spec, planed the head, installed painted tin, now on to the frame so I have something to put this engine into. Just hope it runs!
