Here is a suggestion that could prevent a future problem. It would be a good idea to replace the nut spacers with a piece of flat steel on each side drilled for the holes holding the bracket on. This would spread out the load and the clamping force of the bolts on the steel actually makes everything stronger.
I like the bracket and need something similar for rear weight on my loader project.

I bought a 1864, it's just grown from there. The Cubs have replaced old Chevys as my hobby/passion. The only car I have left is a '67 Chevelle wagon.
Seems like a good trade off. I can put five Cubs where one car sat and there are no titles or license to fool with!
