Yep they can be a bit of a PITA. What I do is to use a piece of safety wire, I make a loop on one end, then fish it in from the back of the frame, hook it to the spring and pull the spring to the rear and hook it to where it needs to be hooked. The safety wire I use is the stuff they use to safety wire bolts on race cars. Takes about 30 seconds. Hope this helps.
