I have both decks and for what it's worth, I use the 44c to cutgrass and the 46GT to bag/mulch leafs in the fall.
The 44c works ok with the stock pulley on my 1250 and ok with the stock 5/8" belt pulley on the 782.
The 44c works really much better on my 1250 when using the smaller "speed up" pulley. The overall deck speed with the speed up pulley doesn't seem much faster than the 46GT does stock.
The 46GT does cut much better, however it is very loud and does windrow very badly, even if the grass isn't tall.
