I understand the question why. I would much rather have the 1864, however there is only an engine that came out of a 1864 for sale. I got the 1641 for nothing. The original briggs had a hole in the block so the P.O. put in a kohler ch16 in it. He had to raise it up so the oil filter would clear the frame. It appears that it is on it's last leg. I see there is the 1864 18hp engine for sale locally. The 48" deck on this cuts nice and since I got it for free if I can get the 18hp for a good price and it will go in without any major problems maybe I will hold onto it. Thanks Rick
