Oil

I've had better luck with SAE 30 or SAE 40 in worn engines air cooled and water cooled. Unfortunately most KT 17's burned oil even when they were new. My opinion on synthetics... if you change it often they are not worth the money... if you are going to neglect it then maybe so..
That engine was designed for SAE 30. A quart or two of oil is a lot cheaper than another engine or a rebuild.
