As far as your "idling down by itself" issue, have you checked the throttle cable where it connects to the engine linkage to be sure that the cable did not come loose from the clamp? If that is tight, then the only thing I can think of is that your throttle handle in the dash is loose. There is a screw that holds the handle to the mounting bracket, and if the friction washer comes loose they will idle down themselves. BTDT many times. Just something to check.
