Default New Member - 682 runner

Hello all,

After running my dad's 100 series Cub for years growing up, I knew at some point I would have to have at least one Cub of my own. I recently acquired a 682 series of my own. It is new enough it was manufactured by CC Corp with the aluminum rear end, but I am glad it at least still says International on the side. At just shy of 900 hours, she runs well and is in good shape other than some scratches and rust on the deck and rims. I have a few questions related to maintenance I was hoping to get help for.

1.) Preferred brand of oil other than common 30 weight that doesn't cost $100/quart? Any reason for special stuff?

2.) I am assuming I should use Case IH hydro fluid when I get around to switching it out. Is Case IH the place to get a new filter as well? Are there any tricks to draining and replacing filter?

3.) Should I get Bomgaar's spark plugs to replace, or get some elsewhere?

4.) If left to sit, it will drain the gas into the case. I believe this is because the carb float needle isn't functioning correctly and is somewhat of a common problem with older carb systems if I understand correctly. (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I can turn a wrench really well, but understanding everything is my downfall.) It is no problem for me to simply shut the gas off in between uses and it runs smooth with no other signs of carb issues. Is this the draining gas any reason to service the carb/firing system?

5.) She also needs new blades at some point. Is there a good place to pick them up other than matching them up at good ole Bomgaar's? (44 inch deck)

Sorry to start off with all the questions, and feel free to re-direct me to a different column if need be! Also it may play into my questions, I am all for proper maintenance and want to keep the old girl running as long as possible but at the same time I don't want to do something just to do it. I have plenty of other projects if that is the case.

Thanks in advance and since it is Friday, happy weekend to y'all.
