Not exactly the pinnacle of safety, but my father used to tell me stories of haying in his younger days in our town, which is fairly hilly. They used a variety of different machines: a farmall M, a JD 50, a JD A, and a Ford 8n, which was his usual machine of choice. He liked it because it didn't have a lot of rolling resistance or gear reduction, so on the downhills he could stomp on the clutch and get rolling really fast. Good thing that's a fairly low machine, and that one must have tracked pretty straight or I likely wouldn't ever have come to be!
