Will the engine crank over? Will the electric fuel pump run? Is there fuel in the glass filter bowl?
I had this problem with a 1512. A friend, old guru, told me to flush out the fuel tank. That cleared the problem up.

The diesels circulate a lot of fuel. Crud floating in the fuel would plug the pick up filter in the tank. After the motor was off for a while, the debris would separate from the pick up filter and allow fuel to flow again and the motor would run a short time again.
