If it takes choke to keep it running then something is plugged, as already stated its time to give the carb a good cleaning and rebuild it. Also make sure the tank is clean and the fuel is flowing freely from it, if there's a rubber hose between the tank and carb I'd go ahaed and replace it because the hose will start to breakdown over time and small chunks of rubber will plug the carb.
