I had a similar problem on my 1872. It would come and go without rhyme or reason. It wasn't until after several instances of this that one time I finished mowing and shut the tractor off with the key. This time the low oil pressure light came on and stayed on. Remember the key switch was off. As I was getting on the tractor, I guess my knee nudged the forw/rev hydro control and the oil light momentarily went out. I took the side panel off and found the flat metal plate that allows the hydro lever to move side-to-side into the forw/rev slots on the dash had some sharp edges. These edges were shaving the insulation off of some wires that were routed into that area. Depending on how far I moved the lever CHANGED which wire was being shorted to ground by the metal plate on the hydro lever. One time it was +12V, the next time it was the oil pressure circuit. It had actually worn through the copper wire so a section was missing.
