C-List is a good place to find kids costumes for reasonable prices. We've been doing a haunted trail party for a few years and we hold it the weekend after Halloween. I always pick up items the day or two after Halloween at the stores for at least 75% less than pre-Halloween prices.
We have one of those Spirit Halloween stores near us too. Props are crazy expensive there but it is a good source of ideas that I can then build myself for less $$. Their props are never discounted after Halloween, I guess they just ship them back to their warehouse for next year.
