KT17 Piston
I have a kt17 that I just tore apart hoping to just put in rings and re-seat the valves. When I pulled the pistons this is what I found. Both pistons have the same gouges in them just in that small area. The cylinder walls are in good shape with no scratches or scuffs and within specs. I am trying to figure out where these gouges came from. I was going to replace the pistons until I seen the cost of them. I can't afford new ones and was wondering if I could put new rings on and use these. There is no other damage to the piston. I know it is probably not a good idea but my options are limited. The motor ran decent but did smoke. There was also oil blowing up through the breather tube into the air cleaner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Earl
