My original is a fairly late one built in 63.. it has the dry element..... I have heard before that they figured out the oil bath air cleaners were not doing the job and dirt was getting thru.. either IH or Kohler specified that they be changed to dry filters.. Not sure if this story is true or not.. but the original owner of my original swears it came with the dry filter..
Maybe Lew or somebody else has some better or more concrete info
