First, welcome to OCC

It sounds like clogged passages in the carb. Get a rebuild kit from Kohler and take off the carb. Turn IN each of the adjustment screws and write down the number of turns for each screw.

Disassemble the carb and spray a carb cleaner into all the passages. ( including the longer carb adjustment screw too -- that has tiny holes in it too ) Blow out with compressed air. ( I highly suggest wearing safety glasses too )

Reassemble the carb and use the settings you wrote down for each of the screws.

I also recommend using Star Tron gas treatment and adding a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil to each and every gas can. It really helps with the crap they call gas today.
