Why would you run a compressor off the rear axle? You are robbing power from your main drive. Same reason what drag cars frequently don't run any engine accessories (no alternator, water pump, power steering, etc.) Just seems like you're holding yourself back.

The compressor can be ran at high speeds but will mainly be ran during shutdown on the long tracks to refill the tanks and used for secondary braking by restricting the flow off air if the hydraulic brakes should fail.
