While I had the fender pan off the 1641 to replace the fuel lines and fix the deck stop I decided to do something to the rusty pitted footrest. I have a small sandblaster that I went over them with the sprayed the with Rusty Metal Primer. I found some Rustoleum Marigold That looked close so I painted the bottom and sides with it. After it dried I taped off the footrest area and sprayed two coats of Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating on it. After the last coat I removed the tape and the liner had wicked back under the tape and it looked like crap. I just decided to spray the whole top side with the bed coating. It's hanging in the laundry/mud room drying now. I didn't actually do all this today. Painting in the winter without a heated shop is a PITA. I bring the part and paint in the house, let it get warm, take it to the garage and paint it then bring it back in to dry. The next step is to hunker down for the complaints about the paint smell. Picture of the footrest before the coating shows the pitted top. Picture of them hanging from the cabinets in the laundry room drying. I probably won't put them on till tomorrow.
