My 12hp machines will run the 50" deck on flat level ground if the grass is cut weekly or often. It seems to be a bit taxing on the power if there is any kind of grade. The 50" only seems to work well on perfectly level grond as well, like wide open fields, no lumps or bumps. So even on my 14hp machines I usally only run the 44" or 42".
Unless your mowing golf course I would be on the look out for a nice 44" it would work with your canted mule drive. The others use the straight mule.
By the way I have two nice 42"ers if anybody would like to trade for a good 38"
