Thanks, it was just something I threw together to hold my engines on my bench. I actually made one with casters on the bottom so I could roll it around my shop too...crude, but it has served me well.
I just looked up some specs, and Kohler says a K301 weighs 130 lbs dry, so with all the added goodies you could be pushing 150 or so...I would remove the starter generator to lighten it up a little before removing the engine..although I have pulled them with it still on. And, yes they can be pulled by hand...I have manhandled many a Kohler engine into a tractor without a lift, just remember to make sure you have the clearance, and everything is disconnected, and out of the way..it sucks to be heaving an engine out to discover you forgot to disconnect a cable or something. I recently replaced the KT17 in my 682 with a K301 from a 1250, and while I was mocking up the engine mounts, I must have pulled the engine in and out 6 times by hand. I got it down to a routine...grab it by the starter mount and below the carb and heave it up onto the tire, then lower it down onto my stand...
