I had a 2185, exact same problem. A brand new carb was my only answer. Never had another running problem after I put it on. Yeah the carb is quite expensive, but was worth it getting the mower to run correctly. Before replacing the carb, I did check and replace all fuel line, fuel pump and anything else that could have been a culprit. If I am not mistaken there is an electronic solenoid on those carbs that goes bad and messes with the fuel delivery.
