I ordered new axle seals, but it appears they are wrong. according to partstree, it takes the same seal as my 1782, but this rear has the small axle tubes like an 1811, so not sure if it has the wrong rear diff in it or if partstree is wrong. guess I'll change the seals another time.
Did you drill the oil return holes in the tranny case while you had it apart?
My guess is that the rear was replaced at some point in it's life with a rear from an earlier machine. It should have the large tubes for the axles. No big deal you'll just need seals from something like a 1872.
