Hello everyone, this is my first post and I am not a Kohler or small engine guy.

My late 70's engine is in a bad place and I hope to save it with your help. The bolt that holds the governor cross shaft in came loose. I noticed the problem and tightened it up. I must have messed something up because now the engine starts but has what seems like timing problems when I give it fuel.

Do you think I need to pull the whole thing apart? Or, is the some way to put the shaft back in the correct way without opening the case?
