Default Voltage Regulator Help

Had a issue yesterday with my 126 and finally figured out that the lower contact on my V/R was stuck/welded together causing the S/G to run after the key was turned off. Freed it up and sanded the contacts with 400 grit paper.

Got it all hooked back up and ran it just to see if that got it fixed. After running it for a few minutes I'm not getting any charge back to the battery and the V/R was extremely hot to the touch after just those few minutes of running. Maybe it's supposed to be? The contact wasn't welded back together but I assume the V/R is a goner and it's time for a new one.

Couple of questions.......
1. Anything I should try before buying a new V/R?

2. Could this be a sign of another electrical issue that I need to correct or did the V/R just give up the ghost?
