Here is what I did: I backed the right rear wheel of the tractor up onto ramp consisting of wood and an old concrete slab in my yard. This elevated the right side about 8" juuuusssst enough that I could slide the repaired rod into the lever without any difficulties. Success! I have multi-level mowing ability for the first time this year.

In fact, if you ever need to get one out I recommend cutting the bottom end off of the L-rod off and welding a new end on on so you can do it as easily as me.
