after you re welded the hole did you fit the spring in the hole to make sure that it did not stick in any areas? sounds like you may have a very tight fit on the spring or pins, i know when i did mine i kept filing till there was no sticky points and i know this may not have been the best idea but i greased up the area. the thinking was grease will attract dirt and filth but i would rather have that over metal to metal rubbing, any way first one lasted 40 years, hoping the repair will outlast me.
