Please define "restoring".

If you have painted the frame and or the engine then you could very well have a no ground situation.

You are going to have to check to see if there is power going into and coming out of the ignition switch, if you have painted inside the dash tower then you may not have ground to the starter solenoid.

Using the wiring diagram, start at the battery and follow the path of electricity with your test light or meter, where the electricity stops is probably where your problem is.

Keep in mind, that the charging system has NOTHING to do with starting the engine.

And check the neutral safety switch to make sure it works properly.
