Default Tiller electric lift

I have a 30" cc hyd tiller for my 2206. The electric lift is driving me crazy.
I have taken apart many times getting to work a little better each time, the gear on motor was partially stripped I was able to flip it to get it to work. It would lift tiller up but wouldn't lower, maybe an inch if that. Took apart again this time took off small u shaped piece located on square block that turns on screw to push ram in and out. Inside were tiny ball bearings that filled block and u shaped piece, they also seem to be magnetic as well. Does anyone know should these be left dry? I put a little grease in and put bearings back but now when I turn by hand a bearing will come out bottom of block once in awhile and stick to screw on the ram, not sure if this is because of grease or what. The previous times I had apart I would turn screw in and out many times and never see a bearing sticking on screw. I do have it working except last inch or so I have to reach back and help pull tiller up. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Yes I know I should buy new one but not I budget right now. Also can I get gears anywhere for motor? It is a Warner electric D12-10B5-04 linear actuator.
