I have shipped household goods via container. They load up multiple shipments to fill them up. It was the heat that did the most damage (can get hot inside!). I remember something like $0.80 per pound

Have shipped stuff strapped to pallets and it was beat to heck by the time it got there. One box had a forklift arm driven through it.

Shipping vehicles is done all the time. Surprisingly cheap. Well, not cheap but not as bad as I feared (I shipped a pickup). No idea if they would take a small tractor. You might test the auto shipment carriers.
