Is the transmission and rear end all one unit on the 102?

I had to drain the Trans fluid to change the Pinion, and it was as thick as honey, also pulled the lower plug on the differential and drained whatever I could.

I would hate to go through all this work and not ask this stupid question rather than find out the hard way.
