To answer your question: No... but yes.
In the "market" there is suggested retail value. In the car market we have KBB and NADA. But for used stuff it's whatever...
My frustration is you can literally go to Wal-Mart, buy a T shirt for $8 and put it up on ebay for $15 and some idiot will come along and buy it. Suggested retail price does not apply to Ebay. I have seen $15 items for sale for $30 and everything in between. The frustration I have with Cub parts in particular is that the price is dictated by what people will pay on ebay.
Example: I have seen Cub Cadet transaxles for sale for $1000 on ebay with the seller claiming how "rare" they are. Come on. We all know that a 3 speed rear end is not uncommon. We all know that they aren't worth $1000.... but then they sell it because someone didn't research. Suddenly the rear ends are starting to sell for more and more because people will buy them for the absurd price. My point is, just because one sells on ebay for high $$ does not mean that it is worth that price. I swear to God, I could put a gallon of gas on ebay for $5, claim that gas prices are going up and some idiot would pay it.
Just to prove my point here is a check valve for a hydro that we all know can be bought new for about $80:

As a note: The seller "quietline" has a hydro pump for sale for $450. I have at least 3 or 4 sitting around. I'll sell any of them for that price if anyone wants one.
Same with the relief valves. I'll gladly sell mine for the mere price of $750. I mean, according to ebay, that's a steal!!!

All the swap meets I've been to had items for sale for MUCH less than I was finding online. I'm more of a buyer, not a seller. I've been happy with all the prices I've paid, but I was patient, and didn't just buy the first one that came along.
