Push on the back side and they should come out (might be kinda hard if they're painted in).
Cleaning paint off the tag without taking the original paint off too may prove to be another challenge.

I think you are may be right about them snapping out? I was looking at one I have for another engine that I have not put back together yet, and they do look like you can push them out from the other side.
