Personally, I would raise a bunch of noise with Deere, and I mean LOUD. Round balers didn't come on the scene last week. There is no excuse for this happening. There is no way you can control the size of a windrow unless you are running 2 or 3 together. Sometimes there is just that much hay out there. Taking a partial width with the rake results in the tractor and/or baler running over and packing down the other windrows. If Deere isn't willing to help, I would consider getting a 2 wheel drive tractor. He can buy bigger, rock solid 2wd tractors for way less money than he has in that machine. Obviously the suggestions to create some sort of shield are probably the only thing that can be done with this machine, my point is it shouldn't come down to that, Deere needs to step up and at least cover the repairs.
