I did get in a pinch one day and need to "repair" a switch of some sort. The little tabs were kind of riveted on and one of them had rusted where it was connected and no longer working. I cleaned as best as I could and managed to solder where it was bradded to the tab. Got my work done but still replaced the switch, figured it was just a matter of time before another joint went bad. Not saying this is what the problem is with the Op's machine, just something I ran into and how I worked around it.
