It's normal for it to go down. Even if it goes completely down it's not an issue. As long as it doesn't go down while raised on the drive from the back of the lawn to the garage where it's kept, it isn't an issue.

No, it does not hurt the hydraulics to hold it up. I prefer to set it down because I have been known to step on the edge of the deck while getting on. Also, all the kids running around my place have been caught trying to use the deck as a spring board to jump on. (Yes, they got a butt chewing for it.... buy you know kids. )

You will need the elbow and lock ring that was already posted, but you may want a used one. They aren't cheap:

You can get a reproduction muffler box from here:

But it doesn't look like you have the aluminum piece that it bolts to. Your going to have to source a used one. That I am aware of, no one yet makes a reproduction.

This guy is a great source for any and all NOS parts. You can get a muffler from CCC or from him. He's a little cheaper. He also has the elbow, but it's basically the same price as CCC wants. Look through his stuff, he may have the muffler box attaching plate. Great doing business with him.

They are still available new. Or from the guy aforementioned. Just buy a new switch. It isn't worth trying to salvage the old one, or to replace it with a toggle.

It's a Kohler K series engine. It doesn't have an accelerator pump. If you jam the throttle from idle to WOT, it will have a very slight hesitation. If you feel it's too much of a hesitation, adjust it some more and check the timing.

I didn't see where you asked about the fan on the driveshaft, but everyone is talking about it. Yes, it needs to be there. It was put on for a reason and on ALL the hydro tractors made buy CCC. People argue that Deere used the same hydro with no fan.... but they had a hydraulic oil cooler. Put on a new fan if your is broke or missing.
