My 107 adventures
Finally got the 107 going enough to start a thread. It's a 1971 with 42" deck and snow thrower. Had to get a mule drive and deck hanger from a local dealers bone yard. While I was there I got a new hydro filter, backplate gaskey, battery and deck belts. Got the hydro fluid drained , housing cleaned and new fluid added. Also replaced muffler and changed engine oil. I need to adjust brakes too.
Being that it's 46 yrs I an having some issues lol. But I did get the yard mowed.
I think my main issue is with timing and /or the points. They will glaze ove after 20 min or so. I will be ordering a points saver ignition from kirk engines. I have some other small things already on order. It does seem to start easy however.
Also, it has been running HOT. After cleaning out a mouse nest I thought it would fix it but no. There is plenty of airflow from the fan. When I was done mowing you could hear the gas cap venting and it sounded like the fuel was on the verge of boiling. Maybe this is related to the timing? I am also having a hard time getting the muffler clamp to seal at the elbow.
I am a novice with this type of engine. The first thing I will do is read up on checking and adjusting the engine timing. I will need new tire but want to make sure it's running correctly before dropping that kind of money into it. Also will replace front wheel bearing then.
I have always wanted an older garden tractor and am quite happy to finally have one. The hydro works well and it drives surpsingly good considering all the steering stop. The hot running thing does have me concerned however.
Here's a couple pics. I will update more as the week goes on. Thanks!
