Default Time to rescue this 1650

I have had a 1450 for years, and needed some parts, so I answered a Craigslist add for parts, and went to pick them up. While I was there, I saw this poor 1650 just rotting away in a pile of garbage behind the house. I asked the owner what he was doing with it, and he said it was a lost cause. $300 later, this poor neglected 1650 was headed home with me.

Right away it is clear to me the front axle pin is loose, and the front axle is rocked forward. The engine turned, so I put a battery in there, and gave her some fuel, and she fired up!! Can't kill a Kohler!

My strategy is to tear it down methodically, and compile a list of replacement parts I will need. I really don't know how healthy the engine is, but I don't see myself rebuilding it.

Rear PTO. I am pretty excited about this. I have a pretty good bit of property that needs attention.

I do have sides from a 1450 that I had gotten for parts in the past, so I will be able to repurpose those here.

I'm pretty sure I need a new seat.

Looking very faded and rough. The steering has a ton of slop.

The drive fan is obliterated, and the tunnel cover is gone. I am sure I have one around here some where, but I will need to order the fan.

To the heart of the matter. The fuel tank is gross, and has a layer of shellac in it. I think I will need to replace it.

New rubber? Yeah, no doubt. Front and rear are rotted.
