I fell into a cyclops this winter that more or less came with the house we bought. We came from a postage stamp development lot where I used a push reel mower. We now have 6+ acres with about half of it mowed. I new the tractor needed some TLC, but every time I touched the machine a new problem seemed to appear. This site has helped immensely and I've read many of the threads and walk-thrus. Thank you all.
Although I was working on fixes with all my free time, the grass was just growing faster than I could solve issues. So, we broke down and got another mower yesterday. Today I needed to mow before the next few days of rain, but it had sprinkled in the morning. I have a nice new shiny mower in the garage, but I couldn't bear the thought of a maiden voyage in wet grass. So, I fired up the 1440 and went at it. As I mowed, the new deck belt and spindles worked freely, I had no fuel supply issues, and the charging system seemed to function the entire time. All of that is thanks to the info on this site.
At the risk of jinxing any good juju... today I took my cub out to mow and it ran the best it has since I've owned it. I mowed for 2 hours with no issues. This is the first time I've felt confident that she's still got life left in her!
Next up is Sam's rear end work, probably over the winter - drilling holes in the axle tubes and maybe getting some braces. Thanks again fellas!
