The lever has a lock on it. You have to either lift or press on it (I don't recall which) to get it to twist. It won't "accidentally" come open. Lots of equipment has them on it. It's a nice accessory for the hard to reach plugs.
Any good operator would notice oil pouring out of a motor anyway......
