I think this has been discussed on OCC before--the exhaust fumes not the stack direction). I can't recall ANY lawnmower that doesn't dump the exhaust right in front of the operator. I can't think of any that have underslung exhaust or a high vertical pipe. I have personally been around some that produced enough exhaust smell to make you nauseous. I always figured it was a tuning issue or poor fuel.
