GT 2544 Fuel Pump/Valve Cover Cap Problem
I am a relatively new owner of a 2006 GT 2544. It has the Command 21 Kohler in it. The mower, in general may have had a rough life but it sure fits the bill for mowing my 1 acre lawn with a lot of trees, bushes, ditches, etc. The hour indicator said it only had 310 hours on it when I bought it but certainly cannot verify that.
Last night while mowing part of it, I had to turn off the engine. I throttled it down before turning off the key as sometimes in the couple months I have owned it, it has backfired. A backfire occurred and then I saw oil dripping out of the engine compartment. When I took a look I found that the yellow cap on the Fuel pump/Valve cover located on the driver's side was gone, I assume blown off by the backfire. Looked all over and could not find it. the hole in the valve cover left by the missing cap was the source of the oil blowing out.
Checked around and it looks like I cannot buy just the Yellow Cap. I can get the entire Fuel pump/Valve cover kit but it's pricey. I am thinking about buying a large rubber stopper and setting it up much like a boat plug, with a bolt running through it that will expand the stopper for a tight fit in the hole from the missing cap. Talked with my old, cantankerous "mower guy" and that is what he recommended while he checks with his mower buddies for another cap for me.
This is my first but probably not my last post on here. Any help, opinions, or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Moosetrot
