What do these people do? Do they take someone else's design, send it to Chinatown and remanufacture it under their name?

Most likely it is re engineered in China.. Just for the record I have never seen anybody have much luck with anything electrical from Harbor Freight if it is used hard or daily.. It would probably be ok for homeowner/hobby use.. Especially if you can try it out for a year with no risk.
I have two Miller machines that are 20 and 25 years old... never gave me any problems at all.. BUT, I depend on these machines almost daily and I have a very good Miller dealer right around the corner. I can stop in there any time and get my supplies and very good advice if I do have an issue..

Personally I'd spend a little more and get a machine for a lifetime.. but that's just me.. I certainly wouldn't blame you for giving these a risk free trial.. they appear to be about half price from a comparable Miller..

The Miller inverter welders started showing up around here about two years ago.. and man I can tell you they weld nice!! I want one bad... but It's hard to pony up the 1100 dollars for one.. I would be interested to know if you try one of these out..
