Yikes!! I did not know that the WF spring assist were going that high. I see them at swap meets for around $45 all of the time. Gonna bag several of them. The hydraulic lift would work best for your dad's needs, especially with that tiller. Since you are going to try out the spring assist on it, my advice would be to try to cut weight whenever possible for him, so that would be to remove any extensions on the tiller, if it has them. Mark Hellrung put a hydraulic lift on a 128 and did an awesome job at it. Like myself, he got burnt out on all of the drama here and I haven't heard of him for quite some time. He is a very nice fella and I am sure he would share pictures of his work, if you asked him to share or they may be under his profile still.
